Notes from the edge. This was the second time I had caught Brand X this year. Earlier in July, the 20th. they played in Kent at a place named "Filthy McNastys". As it was a bar and not overcrowded (maybe 100 people) not two shows but 2 long sets were played! Most of Morrocan Roll was played as well as the Livestock and Unorthodox Behaviour albums. A couple pieces of the Masques took shape during the drawn out show. I forgot to say that Robin Lumley played keyboards this night. It must have been a one off show because he was not touring with them during this phase. My girlfriends' sister dated Peter Robinson when she was in L.A. so I know for a fact that it was R.L. on keys. His hairdo and jaw line can't be mistaken. Long and curly vs. straight black. The best jamming was the 2nd set encore dive bombing "Macrocosm" duel between Goodsall and Lumley. Jaw is still on the floor......Met the band and talked trash about Phil Collins not playing with them. The band took it and said Phil who???? They were not impressed with the loss of him on drums! The band had taken a different road and all was well. Oh, I do believe Kenwood Dennard played drums this show.

And now for this one. General admission was the call and first in, best seats took place! This show and the band - different, but still good.
The ballroom looked like it held about 1000 students but I don't recall that many in attendance.
A large stage allowed Morris to dominate the left side with Percy, Clarke, Miller and Peter to right the leftovers. The mix was so, so. I think a student was doing the mixing and it took a couple of songs to get close to sounding like a group instead of a bunch of individuals. A little unbalanced to say the least and I think this shows in this recording as well. So here you go, finally out of the vaults to your ears. eggplant out.
original notes
I traded for this show a long time ago. Since this show clocks in under 1 hour there may have been 2 shows that night or the recording is incomplete.
Big thanks go to the original taper, I think his name was Tom, great job !!
The recording is not the greatest but more than enough to give a taste of what this band was capable of performing live.
During the second track you'll hear the tapers friend mention hiss so we know they heard some through the house sound system.
I transfered this show a few years ago and have listened to it on and off, always enjoying the performance and the vibe from the taper and his friend.
The atmophere seems to be full of beer, hash and high energy music and I simply love the way it's been captured here.
This is was what the 70's was all about, as far as I'm concerned.
There were a few Brand X shows shared here recently so I though I would give my contribute. This is the last show I saw from the band when I happened to be in Pennsylvania for business.

Instaed of flying, I drove from NYC to Washington DC and stopped overnight in Sellersville to attend this show. I am happy I did so it has been one of the best I have seen over the last 10 years or so.

I could also meet the guys in the band and chat quite a lot with them (most of the talks ended up in Prog Italia magazine). John Goodsall was not in good health back then but I never expected he was so sick. But on stage he played wonderfully well, as if playing live would revitalize him.

The rest of the band was very tight too and the setlist as beautiful as you may expect.

I think this short excerpt of the show will show you what I've tried to explain with words.

Brand X no longer exists but what a gret souvenir it was to see them of their last tour!
