COMMENTS:
What a night! Hopefully those who may have their preferences for one, "era," of
Genesis or another can come together to appreciate this show as a sign of unity
amongst the boys. There are some off moments of course but so much unique and
fun stuff happening that makes it all worth your time.

I don't claim this to be the best version of this show. It's just my own take
on making this sound more enjoyable. It uses only two of the several sources
out there as I thought these ones worked well together.

And here's the third disc I found, this time from Genesis. Host Dan Neer (who many of you know from my Up Close and King Biscuit Flower Hour uploads) also produced a show called On Tour in which he discussed a band or artist who was on the road promoting an album at the time of airing. In this case, the show was released to coincide with the band's 1992 We Can't Dance Tour. The show features all three bandmates discussing tour logistics, staying in shape, what songs will be played and all things tour related.

I originally uploaded a similar show featuring Phil from 1990, which you can view and download here:

\l

If you downloaded that show previously, or if you simply read the notes on the Torrent, you'll know that it did not contain any intros by Neer, no "lead in" comments prior to the interview bits, no voiceover during the opening music montage, and the section where the end credits would be doesn't have any voiceover either. That is NOT the case with this show. The show presented here is much more complete, and sounds like a single disc version of an Up Close show. All of the interview bits are "new" in the sense that I have never heard them before, nor have I presented them here prior to this Torrent. The boys definitely sound like they're having fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this disc as this tour was my first live Genesis experience. 19 May 1992, RFK Stadium, Washington D.C., sixteenth row, DEAD CENTER. "They shall never see the likes of us again!"

As always, seed, share and trade freely, but DO NOT SELL.

Enjoy!
This show was sent to me by greglogan as one large wave file, This file was initially shared by and Remastered by Chris Davies.
For this torrent the wave file has been split as individual files. The tape noise at the start of the first track has been skightly faded in and the applause after the final song has been faded out. Also, a few minor noises have been removed.
DIR/ABC "Supergroups In Concert" [10.Apr.82 - 3LP] and
Westwood One "In Concert" [show #87-09, 11.May.87 - 2LP]

What's unique about this release? It stems from the "Sprite" advertisement version of the Super Groups in Concert disks instead of the "Mello Yello" version that has appeared in another torrent on this site. In addition, this release adds "Turn it on Again" from Westwood One in a continuous mix, in its proper sequence (and timing), to maintain a seamless concert experience. The DIR/ABC interviews are not included for two reasons: they are available elsewhere and the audio quality doesn't match the corresponding musical content. For reference, these two radio shows are further described here by David Dunnington:

https://radioguide.genesis-movement.org/index.html#section-26.1 and
https://radioguide.genesis-movement.org/index.html#section-26.9

OVERVIEW
(Text below reprinted nearly in its entirety from David Dunnington)

Recordings of this material turn up all over the place, and it is difficult to collate the information with certainty. It is the source of material used for the "Three Sides Live" album; the album has a subset of the material available on the various radio shows. Two songs missing from the album, Man On The Corner and No Reply appear on the Genesis Archive #2 box set, both credited as from the Savoy, NY 28 November 1981. Man On The Corner is the same performance as appears on the radio shows and video, but No Reply is different. Some of the songs on the "Three Sides Live" video soundtrack are the same as the album and radio shows but most are alternative versions, duplicated songs being: Behind The Lines/Duchess, No Reply, Man On The Corner and Turn It On Again.

The material was recorded at two or more performances and correctly attributing the songs to venues and dates is problematic. Radio show announcers say "New York" and sometimes "Nassau Coliseum", the video credits "Nassau Coliseum" and "The Savoy Club" in New York. However comparison of both video and album with an audience recording from The Savoy reveals few matches: probably Man On The Corner and maybe Misunderstanding and Me And Sarah Jane. Other songs likely draw from the following venues:

- Nassau Coliseum, New York. As claimed by radio announcers and stated on the video. Genesis' new official site www.genesis-music.com also lists this as a performance contributing to Three Sides Live.
- National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK. In an interview in Chicago, 12.Nov.83 both Phil and Tony agree this as being a venue which contributed to Three Sides Live. The official site mentions that the last night (23.Dec.81) was recorded for the album/video. There's a section on the video when balloons descend from the auditorium ceiling, an event which occurred on each night at the NEC.
- The Spectrum, Philadelphia. Outside shots from the video showing the stadium area and parking lot are from South Philadelphia. The radio station studio shown on the video is that of WMMR Philadelphia. Reportedly WMMR often recorded concerts at The Spectrum and played the odd live Genesis song on the air, for example Misunderstanding which differed from the Three Sides Live version.

The DIR/ABC "Supergroups In Concert" radio show is a good one to own because it is the most complete, the only significant omission being Turn It On Again, found on Westwood One radio shows and the "Three Sides Live" album. DIR, who produced the show in association with ABC, are the people behind King Biscuit. With a broadcast date of 10th April 1982, this is one of the oldest US radio show LP sets. So, this release rectifies the omission of TIOA.
Tape has many cuts (not noted here.) Man on the Corner, Carpet Crawlers, Turn It On Again, and Dance on a Volcano are completely missing.
There was a fragment of the speech before Misunderstanding present at the beginning of the tape which I moved to its correct position.
Tape speed is variable throughout. Two songs (No Reply at All and Firth of Fifth) were run through iZotope RX's wow and flutter tool to even out speed fluctuations.
This recording also has the only genuine copy of Dodo from this show (on recorder 1 it is patched in from Hamburg two nights later.)
Thanks to Dietmar for acquiring this cassette in the 1980s and for letting it out all these years later!
Introduction to the Lost and Found Mike the MICrophone Series

Welcome to JEMS Lost and Found Mike the MICrophone series presenting recordings made by legendary taper Mike Millard, AKA Mike the MICrophone, best known for his masters of Led Zeppelin done in and around Los Angeles circa 1975-77. For the complete details on how tapes in this series came to be lost and found again, as well as JEMS' long history with Mike Millard, please refer to the notes in Vol. One.

Until 2020, the Lost and Found series presented fresh transfers of previously unavailable first-generation copies made by Mike himself for friends like Stan Gutoski of JEMS, Jim R, Bill C. and Barry G. These sources were upgrades to circulating copies and in most instances marked the only time verified first generation Millard sources had been directly digitized in the torrent era.

That all changed with the discovery of many of Mike Millard s original master tapes.

Yes, you read that correctly, Mike Millard s master cassettes, long rumored to be destroyed or lost, have been found. Not all of them but many, and with them a much more complete picture has emerged of what Millard recorded between his first show in late 1973 and his last in early 1992.

The reason the rediscovery of his master tapes is such a revelation is that we ve been told for decades they were gone. Internet myths suggest Millard destroyed his master tapes before taking his own life, an imprudent detail likely concocted based on the assumption that because his master tapes never surfaced and Mike s mental state was troubled he would do something rash WITH HIS LIFE S WORK. There s also a version of the story where Mike s family dumps the tapes after he dies. Why would they do that?

The truth is Mike s masters remained in his bedroom for many years after his death in 1994. We know at least a few of Millard s friends and acquaintances contacted his mother Lia inquiring about the tapes at the time to no avail. But in the early 2000s, longtime Millard friend Rob S was the one she knew and trusted enough to preserve Mike s work.

The full back story on how Mike s master tapes were saved can be found in the notes for Vol. 18 Pink Floyd, which was the first release in our series transferred from Millard s original master tapes and now officially released on the Wish You Were Here 50th Anniversary Box Set.

Genesis, The Forum, Inglewood, CA, March 24, 1977

Welcome to one of the most complicated restorations in Lost and Found series history.

March 24, 1977 was the first time Genesis played the legendary Forum in Southern California, and of course Mike "The Mike' Millard was there to capture it. We've been planning to release this show since the start of the series, but it has been fraught with challenges that we have come to learn date back to when Millard himself was alive and sharing copies of the show.

As it turns out, Mike missed the start along with most of the first two songs, and had a couple of choppy tape flips. When he gave copies of the show out, it was as a composite tapping parts of his San Diego recording made three nights later and released on Lost and Found Vol. 115.

Mike's tape one master has been in our collection all along, but the second tape remains MIA. We have the case but no tape and given the years of looking without finding it, we're not entirely convinced it was ever in there. Frustrating.

But our path to redemption started when we obtained a Millard-made copy of the end of the show, a rare example of him using a 45 minute cassette, which contains the last song of the night, "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" > "The Musical Box" on one side and a different show on the other.

We were getting closer, but still missing what should have been on tape two which was the end of the main set: Dance On A Volcano > Drum Duet > Los Endos.

Admittedly, it took awhile for us to sort all this out, but with help from friends on the CRMA and Genesis Archive Discord servers, we were able to track down a patch of those three songs from downstream copy that went from tape to DAT to VHS to CD to FLAC in a sort of audio quintathalon. Now we just needed the missing songs from the start of the show.

Good fortune did shine on us when we realized that a set of undated Barry Goldstein tapes only marked Genesis was in fact his master recording of the March 24, 1977 Forum concert.

Using all four sources we have been able to reconstruct a nearly complete recording save for the very start of "Squonk." The track list notes what sources were used where. We've attempted to make the patches as seamless as possible.

Mike's underlying recording which makes up the bulk of what you'll hear is excellent, and superior to previously circulating versions. It bears his unmistakable up-close, full-fidelity sound. Samples provided.

As luck would have it, Jim R was with Mike at the show. Here's what he remembered about the night:

I went with Mike Millard to the Genesis concert at The Fabulous Forum in Inglewood on March 24, 1977. As usual, Mike drove like a maniac, dodging in and out of LA traffic. Our celebratory beers chilled on ice all the way there.

We sat way closer than in San Diego three days later. For The Forum we had Section A Row 2 Seats 1 and 2. On the center aisle, two rows from the stage. For San Diego we sat 16th row on the floor.

Of course, Genesis travels with an excellent sound system, one of the best.

Being in the second row on the aisle meant that security was only a few feet away. Very high risk especially when you consider that the stage lights were illuminating the two of us. Yep, we were in the spotlight. Therefore, I took only a couple rolls of 36 exposure slide film. And I had to wait until the lights were dimmer to take pictures, instead of when the lights provided the best light.

Counting the Forum and San Diego shows, these were the second and third times we saw Genesis, the first being Burbank's Starlight Bowl in 1976 where we became big fans. They played a diverse setlist including the classic "Supper's Ready." Also, the great Steve Hackett was still in the band.

Back to this show, I hope you enjoy the sights and sounds as much as Mike and I did.

Cheers to my buddy Mike. RIP.

###

JEMS is proud to partner with Rob, Jim R, Jim Ri, Ed F, Barry G and others to release Millard's historic recordings and to help set the record straight about the man himself.

We can t thank Rob enough for reconnecting with Jim R and putting his trust in our Millard reissue campaign. Both remain amazing partners in our on-going efforts. Jim R's photos from the show grace the cover art designed by mjk5510, who also continues his invaluable work as JEMS' production and release supervisor. We couldn't do this without him. Thanks as well to the essential contributions of Professor Goody on this and all JEMS releases.

Special thanks this week to The Genesis Archive, CRMA, beyondthemoon, Dietmar and VW for their help in assessing the recordings and getting JEMS the missing audio.

This is will be the last "new" Millard release in our return season on DIME, but there is one more volume to go that will appear soon at That Totally Different torrent site.
JEMS is proud to extend our partnership with longtime Southern California taper Barry Goldstein. Barry began taping in the early '70s and remained active until just a few years ago, though his later work focused more on video than audio. In his heyday, Barry was a dual threat, recording the shows he attended and photographing, too, with impressive results.

His master tapes circa 1973-83 include previously uncirculated shows and recordings of David Bowie, Genesis, Roxy Music, Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton, Supertramp, The Who and others.

Beyond his own captures, Barry was a close friend of the late, great Mike "The Mike" Millard, attending many concerts with him as well as recording nights and shows Mike didn't cover. Like Jim R, Barry shared Mike the Mike tapes with JEMS that are not in general circulation for our Lost and Found series.

Vol. 20 marks one of the key occasions when Barry and Mike attended the same concert, in this case the first Genesis show at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood. This week we release both as companion recordings. While Millard's work is sonically superior, as explained in the notes for Lost and Found Vol. 260 it is not without its problems, notably missing most of the first two songs. Goldstein's master filled in most of the gaps in the Millard capture, though Barry also missed the first minute or two of the opener, "Squonk."

Here we present Goldstein's full recording, in quality consistent with other his efforts from this era, with solid, steady sound that might be just a touch fuzzier than Barry's best but remains a highly listenable document of the evening and a welcome peer to Millard's master. Samples provided.

JEMS thanks Barry for trusting us with his incredible archive of audio, video and photography. He was one of the pioneers and it is an honor to get his work out into the world 50 year later. We should note that Barry is battling serious health issues and could use all the positive energy you can send. Thanks this week to Professor Goody who checked pitch, and to mjk5510 for taking care of post production.

We look forward to sharing more of Barry's master recordings in 2026. If you're only following this series on DIME, our last volume, 19, featuring Supertramp live in Santa Monica, March 31, 1976, was released earlier this month on TTD.
